Alert from the National Food Crime Unit
Food safety incidents are costly and damaging, but they can often be avoided with the right preventive measures. At SALSA, we work with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to provide our members with the latest industry information and tools to protect their businesses.
The National Food Crime Unit (NFCU) recently warned businesses about fraudulent laboratory test results being used to facilitate food crime. False test results can allow unsafe products into the supply chain, posing risks to businesses and consumers.
Fraud methods include:
โ Adulterated lab documents with altered dates or results
โ Manipulated spreadsheets hiding out-of-specification results
โ Fake certificates using details from closed labs
How to Protect Your Business:
๐ Always verify lab documents against original sources
๐ Work with accredited laboratories
๐ก๏ธ Report any suspicions to the NFCU
