SALSA Supports Innovation
Jelly Drops are award-winning sweets designed to boost hydration. They’re 95% water, sugar free and vegan with added electrolytes.
Inventor Lewis Hornby was inspired to create the water sweets after his Grandma Pat, who had dementia, was struggling to hydrate. With a solid, but smooth, texture - these sweets do not have a liquid centre - they encourage independent hydration for all, through a delicious snack.
Jelly Drops gained their first SALSA Certificate at the beginning of March. We asked them a few questions about their SALSA journey.
- Why did you choose to become SALSA Approved?
SALSA is the perfect standard for a startup like ours and it is a great way to benchmark ourselves within the food industry and to continuously improve as we aspire for excellence. It is also a great way to get the Jelly Drops name out there.
- How did you find implementing the Standard?
The standard was very straightforward to implement, SALSA provided a lot of documents as guidance and completing the Self-Assessment checklist in advance was the best tool to implement it.
- How did you find your audit?
The auditor was supportive of our business and our product, he asked a lot of questions prior and during the audit to better understand our processes and product. Also he was very helpful on the recommendations he made to help us immediately improve our food safety and quality systems. As this was our first audit it was a good insight on what to expect for future audits.
